The Keto Kitchen at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is one such teaching kitchen. Its mission is to educate families about how to prepare and cook healthy foods on the high-fat ketogenic diet for children with epilepsy. The cooking classes are open to anyone who would like to learn more about the diet. At CHOP, a chef trained by Dr. Axel Weber will teach participants how to prepare healthy foods using the basic ingredients.
The goal of the Keto Kitchen is to make following the diet easy and delicious for everyone. To do this, registered dietitians teach families how to prepare and eat the foods they are prescribed. The classes are taught by a research chef and a registered dietitian. A variety of recipes are available for both personal and group use. Once a family has decided to begin the keto diet, they can choose a class. The classes are open to all and are free.
In March, the Keto Kitchen opened in Iowa City. The restaurant’s owner, Mohammed Nasr, changed his life after undergoing the diet. He realized that he needed to share his newfound health with other people. Since he couldn’t feed his employees and friends in his own home, he decided to open a Keto Kitchen. The cafe offers meal prep and catering services to those on the diet. The goal of The K-K-K is to make it sustainable, easy, and delicious for everyone to eat.
